Liposuction FAQ Toronto – Windsor – Richmond Hill Ontario

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction (also called Lipectomy, Lipoplasty and Liposculpture) is a plastic surgery procedure that has been available for many years. In the past decade, thanks to modernized and greatly improved technologies, it has become one of the most popular and safe plastic surgery procedures for both men and women.

Used on all areas of the body to sculpt a more slender shape and improve proportions, the procedure surgically removes unwanted localized fat deposits using a thin cannula, which is attached to a suction pump. The cannula is inserted through small incisions in the skin and gently suctions out the fat below.

It is common practice to treat several areas in a single session for a full-body sculpting and contouring effect, resulting in a slimmer, more pleasing silhouette.

Some of the problem areas treated are commonly referred to as “saddle bags”, under arm flab “Bat wings” “love handles”, “Muffin Tops”, “cankles”, “Man Boobs”, “Moobs” and “Double Chin”.

Liposuction is the only way to remove those fatty deposits, in a safe and permanent way, when diet and exercise doesn’t work.

Who is a good candidate?

It is someone who has stubborn fat deposits making their body appear disproportionate despite exercise and proper diet. You should in good health, a non-smoker, close to your ideal weight and have realistic expectations and goals.
It is important to note that stubborn, localized fat deposits can be age related, genetically predisposed, or the result of pregnancies or weight loss surgery. Diet and exercise may help minimize these areas but are not always adequate. Liposuction, conversely, is the most effective way to reduce these bulges and rolls. Some of the typical areas known to accumulate fat are the abdomen, hips, thighs, breasts, male chest area (gynecomastia), upper and lower back, buttocks, flanks, upper arms, legs, knees, neck and jowl area.

How are the procedures performed?

Body Sculpting with Liposuction may be done under local anesthetic with or without sedation, or a full general anesthetic depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Surgical compression garments are worn for a period of time afterward to provide support and reduce swelling and bruising. They are easily hidden under clothing.
